Terning · com.kastspil.terning · Total System ApS

In force 4 October 2026 · first edition

Terning flips a coin, rolls dice, draws a number and picks from a list. It does all of that on your own phone, offline, with no account, no advertising, no analytics and no server. Nothing you flip, roll, type or pick is sent to Total System ApS or to anyone else. The two things worth reading properly are what the history keeps, and what happens when the list you paste in contains other people's names.

What Terning keeps on your phone

Android gives each app a private storage area that other apps cannot read. Terning writes four kinds of thing into it:

That is the whole of it. It stays in the app's own storage, it is copied into a device backup only if you have Android's backup switched on — in which case Google holds it under Google's terms and we never see it — and uninstalling the app takes all of it with it.

What it never does

Those statements describe the build published today. The last card on this page sets out the order in which any of them would have to be withdrawn if that ever changed.

The list you paste in may be a list of people

Most of what an app like this handles is meaningless: a six, a tails, the number 41. The picker is different. When you type in who is doing the washing-up, who presents on Thursday, or who is cut from the team, you have written down a set of real people's names — and then the history records which of them the app chose, with a timestamp.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation those names are personal data about them, not about you, even though you are the one who entered them. Our position on it is simple and complete: that list never leaves your phone. It is not uploaded, not backed up to any server of ours, not readable by us under any circumstances, and not used for anything except filling the picker the next time you open it. We could not produce it if we were asked to, because we have never had it.

What that does mean is that the responsibility for those names sits with the person holding the phone. If you have put colleagues into a list, the sensible thing is the same as with a paper note on a desk: clear it when it has served its purpose. The card below says how.

Clearing the history and the lists

The history screen has its own control for emptying itself, and it takes effect at once. A picker list can be edited or deleted where it was created. Beyond that, Android's own app settings will clear the app's storage while leaving it installed, which returns Terning to the state it was in on its first run — empty history, no lists, default settings.

None of these need anything from us, and none of them can be undone, because no second copy of any of it was ever made anywhere.

Who is responsible

The data controller is Total System ApS, Industriholmen 80, 2650 Hvidovre, Denmark, and the person answerable is John Rexen. Article 13 of the Regulation requires a controller to be named even where the processing is as slight as it is here, which is why the company appears in full rather than as "the developer".

In substance that responsibility covers one channel: email. The app does not process personal data on our behalf, because the app's data never reaches us. Downloading or updating Terning from Google Play is a separate matter between you and Google, which is its own controller for that, on its own terms.

If you write to us

Mail goes to kast@assicurazioni.cyou. Your address, your message and anything attached to it arrive with us and are kept while the matter is live and for a short period after it closes, in case it comes back, then deleted. The basis is Article 6(1)(f), our legitimate interest in answering people who write to us about our own software. It is used to reply and for nothing else — no list, no onward sharing, no marketing — and asking for a thread to be deleted sooner is enough.

One warning worth giving. If you are reporting a problem with the picker, do not paste the list into the email. Replace the names with A, B and C: the bug will reproduce just as well, and there is then nothing in our inbox that belongs to anyone else.

Your rights, and Datatilsynet

The Regulation applies in Denmark alongside databeskyttelsesloven. In an app shaped like this one, the rights it grants turn into two questions that people actually ask, so here are both with their real answers.

"What do you hold about me?"

If you have never written to us: nothing whatsoever, and a request for access, a copy, correction, erasure, restriction, objection or portability will come back saying exactly that. There is no account to look you up by and no identifier in the app to match you against. If you have written to us, all of those rights apply to that correspondence in the ordinary way — free of charge, no particular wording needed, answered inside one month, at the address above.

"My picker list had other people's names in it. What about them?"

They are on your phone and nowhere else, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or erase — which is also the answer if one of those people asks us directly. The rights they have over those names are exercised against whoever is holding the phone, by clearing the list, and we have set out above how that is done.

Denmark's supervisory authority is Datatilsynet, at datatilsynet.dk, and you may complain to it directly without raising anything with us first. If you live elsewhere in the EEA, your own national authority is equally competent.

Children

Terning has no chat, no user-generated content shared with anyone, no outbound links and no purchases. It collects no data from any user, which includes any user under thirteen or under sixteen, so there is no consent mechanism to run and none is implied. It is a coin and some dice.

If this page is ever rewritten

The date under the title is the edition in force. Where a release would make anything above untrue — something collected, something transmitted, a library added, a permission requested — the order does not vary: this page is corrected first, the Data safety declaration in the Play Console is corrected in the same sitting, and only afterwards does that release reach anybody. Tidying a sentence is not such a change and earns nothing but a newer date.

Superseded editions are kept. Ask at the address below and the previous text will be sent to you, which is the only way anyone outside the company can hold us to the paragraph above.
